Steve Trevor’s character is complex because of its simplicity. He’s handsome. He’s a spy. He’s smart. He kicks ass. But he’s the sidekick and he’s human. And for all his grandeur, his character is as supporting as it needs to be to one badass OP lead.
I fell in love with Steve Trevor (physically) because, wtf, who wouldn’t? Bloody Pine and his blue eyes. But then again, it got me thinking. What if it was another actor? Would he be able to achieve the kind of smolder Chris delivers? Or the kind of awkwardness he exudes whenever he gets ‘Diana-flustered’? I mean, returning to that pool scene where he was playing with the water; it was so simple yet it already showed to the audience so much about Steve Trevor. And that level of restraint yet giving in his acting is amazing.
That tower scene where he tries to have Diana help him? Those moments? Idk about you but that was pure 50 emotions in one stammering beat. He was like, ‘please help me’ and ‘omg don’t be mad’ and ‘i don’t know’ and ‘i love you’ and ‘you’re exasperating’ and ‘i need to go’ and etc etc etc. I was stunned, “What was that?” And it made me think, what if the actor who played Steve wasn’t Chris Pine? Would I still fall in love with Trevor?
I’m not into ‘who’s going to play the love interest?’ of superheroes. Despite the fact that they do make the hero a little more human (because love makes us all human) and a little less unattainable. But I couldn’t really care more for them. But for Steve Bloody Trevor, Pine just had to make him a planet. Yes, because suddenly, Steve created his own gravity and pulled me towards him out of nowhere.
Pine was cruelly amazing (both in acting and in exploding my ovaries). He made Trevor breathing for me. Just like how Gal electrifies Wonder Woman to life for me. I know Wonder Woman is strong and amazing and powerful. But after seeing the movie, it came to me. Somehow, no matter how strong and powerful and perfectly godly one character could be. S/He would always need somebody like Steve Trevor in their lives.
